Newcastle Dance Academy are proud to be an affiliate DanceStep Studio partner
Newcastle Dance Academy is proud to be a DanceStep Studio!
DanceStep, is an incredible Dance Student Teacher Education Program that empowers NDA students to become role models, grow as leaders and offer care for others in our dance studio community.
The DanceStep Student Teacher and Leadership program provides learning opportunities for dance students from 10 years of age and is designed to develop leadership, communication and problem solving skills.
Participating in the DanceStep program benefits students through education but also by growing confidence, empathy and responsibility. Theory lessons are completed through a course on-line and NDA DanceSteppers assist with one practical lesson per week.
Whether students are considering a career in dance teaching or otherwise, the DanceStep program is a great preparation for many aspects of life.
As dance educators we KNOW that students learn more than simply the steps during their time in the studio. Students learn to be part of a team and a community, to be resilient and tenacious, to enjoy the rewards of delayed gratification and many other important life skills. For many, the dance studio becomes a second home where students feel safe, nurtured, and encouraged to reach their full potential in all aspects of life. DanceStep, a 6 level Student Teacher Education Program, builds on this philosophy and provides a progressive and formalised process including both practical and theoretical components.
The minimum age for enrolment is 10 years. There are currently 6 levels (or Steps) and all students commence at Step One, regardless of their age, as each Step is a pre requisite for the next. Most leadership work is focused on development in adults, but students from ten years of age absolutely THRIVE on learning and taking responsibility.
Each DanceStep student receives access to their own online learning portal and downloadable workbook for completion.
Subjects include Anatomy, Safe Dance Principles, Self-Leadership, Planning for Performances, Behaviour Management, Teaching Strategies, Learning Styles and Communication
Each DanceStep student is allocated a class to assist and apply their new knowledge and skills. During this time skills such as patience, empathy, taking initiative and feedback and communication strategies are further developed.
At the conclusion of each Level in DanceStep students receive a Certificate, which is a great addition to any applications for Leadership positions at school or later, on their CV.
Our students are the leaders of the future, and it is exciting to provide this unique opportunity to encourage and support them!
I am a DanceStepper because I am interested in learning how to correctly interact and teach classes no matter how many mistakes we make we will only learn from them.
My favourite style of dance would have to be Contemporary then Ballet because of the way you can express yourself through movement and get better each day.
My favourite dance memories would have to be backstage of concerts and group eisteddfods.
I would describe myself as a helpful and kind person that can easily be approached. I hope that I seem like a trustworthy person who can help others.
Being a DanceStepper is a great opportunity because we can learn the qualities of a dance teacher and get to help teach and improve the students and be a part of their journey.
My favourite dance styles are Contemporary and Ballet. I love Contemporary because you get to create shapes and express yourself through the music. I also like Ballet because it is very relaxing and very pretty.
My favourite dance memories are group eisteddfods and concerts since we can spend time with our friends.
I am a very enthusiastic and open person, with a kind and bubbly personality. I am also a dedicated learner and am very patient.
I love being able to help with something I love.
I love Ballet because it is pretty and has a lot of artistry to it.
All of the NDA concerts.
Happy and crazy.
